Is Willpower Required for Overcoming Binge Eating?
In a very simple answer: No.
Many people believe that their willpower is not strong enough to overcome binge eating disorder.
Many try, try, and try some more only to let themselves down because they aren’t able to stop binge eating.
The most interesting thing is that overcoming binge eating disorder has nothing to do with willpower. Personally, I think willpower is just a way to make us feel bad about ourselves. Willpower is necessary and required for many things; eating disorders is not one of them though.
Willpower, or the lack of willpower, makes us feel weak. It makes us wonder why we aren’t able to end binge eating. The truth of the matter is that willpower is not what is needed to end binge eating disorder.
What is needed to stop the battle with binge eating is found within ourselves. It’s not a measure of how strong we are; it’s about our mindset. It’s about loving ourselves enough to not binge eat.
Only when we stop measuring ourselves by our willpower can we truly be freed from binge eating disorder.
