Social Situation Tough for Binge Eaters
Last night Rob and I were eating dinner at my aunt and uncle’s house. They told us that they wanted to invite Rob’s dad and stepmom over for dinner while they are in town in September. They asked what we wanted for dinner and I said, “How about our famous Italian food and some good Louisana Cajun food?” (This combines the Italian in my family and the Cajun food from my aunt’s family.)
When I realized that maybe this would mean they were in the kitchen all day long, I said, “Actually, we could just come over to hang out and we don’t need food.” My uncle and aunt both said, “What do you mean, not have food? Our family is great, but we are even better with food!”
It’s funny, but true. Even last night, we went to their house to drop off 2 bottles of wine we picked up for them at a winery. Of course my uncle grilled steak for himself and Rob and my aunt made me some pasta. Food is always involved.
Food is a very “social” thing for so many people. Not only is it a source of life, but food shows love. This is the exact reason why it is so hard for binge eaters to beat their own eating disorder.
Food is all around us. Of course, we wouldn’t binge eat in front of others as we would if we were alone, but that doesn’t make it any less tempting. Sadly, food is what we need to live but it can also cause obsesity and become a killer of our life.
Food is one of those things that you can’t just dismiss if you have a problem with it. Binge eating disorder complicates life and the social aspects of it. If you have an issue with drugs or alcohol, you are taught to refrain from it…
When there’s a problem with binge eating, you can’t just refrain; you need it to live! All throughout our lives, we are faced with food and when you binge eat, it really does make it hard…
Overcoming binge eating disorder will get you to where you are comfortable in social situations where food is always present.
